The Bowman/Slope County Health Nurses are part of the eight county SW District Health Unit with the main office located in Dickinson, ND. We work in conjunction with the ND State Dept. of Health to provide services and programs that maintain or improve the health status of our population.



Communicable Disease Control

Immunizations that are recommended or required for children and adults are offered at our office. Please call for an appointment.

Tuberculosis testing is available and TB medication is provided through the ND State Dept. of Health per physician's prescription.
Skin and Scalp Conditions such as lice, scabies, etc. Screening and education is available.
HIV/AIDS referral for testing



Maternal and Child Health

Newborn postpartum home visits are available free of charge. A health assessment and educational materials are provided.
School health services include:

  • Vision checks
  • Scoliosis screening
  • Health education for students and staff
  • Tobacco Prevention and cessation education
  • Adolescent Program yearly (grades 4-6)
  • Pre-school health assessment and developmental screening
  • Dental Health: education, information and referral
  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome): follow-up visit and education
  • ND Health Tracks: This program coordinated with Social Services, provides free health care screenings, follow-up and treatment to Medicaid eligible participants from newborn to age 21 years.
  • WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program is a nutrition information and food program for pregnant women, infants, and children to age 5 years. WIC clinics are held one day a month at the Bowman office. Call for an appointment.


    Adult Health Promotion

    Health Maintenance program serves senior citizens and disabled persons age 60 and over by providing health screenings, education, information, and referrals. Monthly Health Maintenance clinics are held in the following towns:

  • Amidon –Prairie Senior Citizen's Center
  • Bowman – Sunny Home Apts., Pleasant Manor community room, Sodbusters Senior Center
  • Marmarth – Little Missouri Senior citizen's Center/Fire Hall
  • Rhame – Pioneer Senior Citizen's Club
  • Scranton – Golden Miners Senior Citizen's Club

    Adult Health screenings (ex. blood pressure checks, nail trimming, blood glucose screening, and hemoglobin checks are offered at our office upon request. )
